Built on a foundation of more than 250 original interviews, now in the works is the definitive “history of” and “art of” behind the scenes coffee table book on the 1980s and ’90s G.I. Joe. Packed with rare and never-before-seen photos, drawings, paintings, letters, memos, and even an unpublished Marvel “G.I. Joe” comics story, this book is a must-have for Joe fans as well as a significant piece of pop culture journalism. Relive the ups and downs from the perspective of the toy designers, show writers, comics artists, advertising executives, and marketers who made G.I. Joe the hottest brand of the ’80s.
November 2020 update: Chapters 1-11 and 13-17 are written. Chapters 2-15 are designed. Wrapping up 12 and 18-19 soon, I hope, and casting about for images. Still figuring out Chapter 20. Chapters 2-8 need revisions to bring them up to the level of specificity of later ones, and as I’ve found more interview subjects that need to be inserted.
